Diploma in Travel Agency Management

 
The CTHCM Diploma in Travel Agency has been specifically designed to provide for this segment of the job market and gives comprehensive training in the management, computing and airline ticketing skills.

The course is particularly suited to those who would like to open their own travel agency but can also be used for employment by travel agencies, tour operators and airline companies or to continue degree education.

The course combines seven modules of the Tourism Management Diploma with three modules of IATA/UFTAA approved Fares and Ticketing and Computer Reservation Systems.

CTHCM has links with a number of universities for students who are interested in enhancing their qualifications.CTHCM Management Programmes are widely recognised by universities as offering equivalency to degree level study and CTHCM Diploma students may therefore gain direct entry onto the second year of a variety of hospitality and tourism degree programmes. Similarly, CTHCM Advanced Diploma students may enter onto their chosen degree at final year level.

Course Structure ::
 
Course Aim :
  1. Understanding of the world geography with particular reference to the tourism industry
  2. An understanding of the factors affecting tourists' desire to travel
  3. The knowledge and skills to use I.T. in some common applications in the industry
  4. An understanding of travel agency and tour guide operations and the factors to consider to ensure a profitable business
  5. An overview of the separate functions and activities that concern managers in the modern tourism industry
  6. Knowledge of the financial principles involved and their specific applications to the travel and tourism industry
  7. An understanding of marketing and its application in the travel and tourism industry and how to optimise product penetration
  8. Knowledge of the price calculation and creation of documents and itineraries according to the customer's requirements (10 IATA points)
  9. An understanding of fare construction principles. Building on the VA Level 1 foundation of fares knowledge, and through step-by-step stages to new principles of fare construction, it will enables you to calculate more complex fares and prepare you for real life working situations.
  10. Knowledge of Computer Reservation System (GDS)
Entry Requirements :
  • Have the equivalent of high school diploma or British O-levels.
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Complete an application form
Assessment :
 
All assessments for the course are written by the CTHCM and invigilated at the Williams College centre. Examination papers are sent to CTHCM for marking.
The course is divided into two blocks of 20 weeks, studying five modules in each block. This covers the minimum requirements of tuition in total (three hours per module per week).Please refer to the suggested blocks below.
Examinations for the five modules are taken on the twentieth week of each block. Each of the modules has a 2 and a half hour examination, set and marked by CTHCM.
 
Awarding Body :
The Diploma in Travel Agency Management is awarded by the CTHCM.
