ACCA's Certified Accounting Technician (CAT)

 
CAT course is designed to offer the technical knowledge for the beginners of accounting profession. It can be achieved by successfully completing the exams and acquiring a practical experience. After the completion the students have the option of entering into the accounting profession in a support role or pursuing the Professional Scheme (ACCA).
The students will be awarded exemption to the ACCA Professional scheme after they achieve the Technician level.
 
Entry requirements and exemptions
A student must normally be aged 16 or above to register, but there are no formal academic qualifications necessary. If the students have no academic qualifications, the students will be expected to complete all three Levels of the Certified Accounting Technician examinations.
 
Holders of certain qualifications may obtain exemptions from some of the papers. Visit ACCA's exemptions database at to find out the eligibility for exemptions.
 
Structure
The CAT scheme is divided into three levels:
  • Introductory Level (2 modules)
  • Intermediate Level (2 modules)
  • Advanced Level (5 modules)
Introductory Level
  • Recording Financial Statements ( Paper 1 )
  • Information for Management and Control ( Paper 2 )

Intermediate Level

  • Maintaining Financial Records ( Paper 3 )
  • Accounting for Costs ( Paper 4 )
Advanced Level (Essential modules)
  • Managing People and Systems ( Paper 5 )
  • Drafting Financial Statements ( Paper 6 )
  • Planning, Control and Performance Management ( Paper 7 )
Advanced Level (any TWO from the Options)
  • Implementing Audit Procedures ( Paper 8 )
  • Preparing Taxation Computations ( Paper 9 )
  • Managing Finances ( Paper 10 )
Royal Wells College offers all the three levels and the students can enroll at any level depending upon the previous qualifications or exemptions obtained.
 
Examinations
Students have the choice of either taking Computer Based Examination (CBE) or traditional paper based examination for both Introductory and Intermediate levels.
Advanced level examination should be taken only as paper based.
Paper based examinations are conducted by ACCA twice a year – June & December.
Computer based examination can be taken any time during the year.
 
Progression
Successful completion of Technician level will enable a student direct to entry into Part – 2 of ACCA Professional scheme or by gaining one year practical experience in the field a student can achieve the CAT professional status.
Registration with ACCA
All the CAT students should register with ACCA as a student member. The students do not need to register by the registration deadlines given below; still they need to ensure that they are registered as a CAT student and in possession of their student registration number before taking the Computer Based Examination (CBE). Registration with ACCA can take place at anytime of the year.

Enrolling for CAT course at Royal Wells College (RWC) does not automatically register the students to ACCA. It is the responsibility of the student to register with ACCA; however guidance for registration can be given by the experienced staffs at RWC.

Classes
 
Classes are conducted by the experienced Tutors. The lessons will be examination focused which help the students to pass the exams with good marks. Each session is 3 hours duration which is delivered with quality notes. RWC will provide revision classes and conduct practice exams before the examinations.
